Blackmagic Camera 3.1.2 Update
Blackmagic just released version 3.1.2 of the Blackmagic Camera App — and while most of this update is bug fixes, there’s one massive change that iPhone filmmakers have been waiting for. You can now record Apple Log + Open Gate at the same time. This is a huge win for Apple Log shooters.
Apple Log + Open Gate — Now Working Together
Previously, if you were shooting Apple Log on:
- iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max
- iPhone 16 Pro / Pro Max
Open Gate recording was disabled — the only way to unlock it was switching to Rec.709. Not ideal.
Now, in version 3.1.2, you can finally shoot:
- 1920 × 1440 Open Gate + Apple Log
- Full sensor readout
- Log flexibility
- Better crop options later
This gives creators brighter highlights, smoother roll-off, richer shadows — with maximum framing flexibility for:
- 2.35:1 cinema crops
- Vertical edits / Reels / Shorts
- Square formats
- Social + widescreen delivery from the same clip
This change alone makes this update essential.
Other Fixes & Improvements
This release also includes multiple quality-of-life upgrades:
| Improvement | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Stabilization toggle now works properly | You can disable stabilization again when needed |
| LUT Import works instantly | No more app restarts required |
| Recording failure bug fixed on iOS 26 | More reliability for important shoots |
| ProRes RAW orientation issue fixed on iPhone 17 Pro/Max | Correct orientation when screen lock is enabled |
| General performance & stability improvements | Better confidence during production |
